would the eu even accept that? if the uk decides not to exit? didn't england get some favourable terms to sign in the first place? i'd imagine the eu would have some demands to revoke some of them to allow them to stay and then the english will bitch about it because for whatever reason, they seem to think they still have an empire

The EU already said they would accept that
The European Court of Justice ruled the UK can cancel Brexit without the permission of the other EU members

yes, they would, and have said so repeatedly. they have tried to make the best out of a really shitty situation, and the mistrust that the UK has in the EU is baffling tbh.

yeah i am confused too. like that's a great deal if they can revoke the withdrawal with no penalties. why the hell are they even going along with this charade then?

because all major parties and something between 48 and 52% of the UK population still want to leave. this has never been about reason, but about emotion and xenophobia and "sticking it Brussels".

ah, i see. i thought in the time since the referendum people might've opened their eyes and smartened up but i guess not. too bad for all those who didn't want this to happen

this has happened to some extent, tbh. but politicians remain too afraid to test out the idea of a 2nd ref in case it backfires on them. they're cowards.

We don't know how many people still want to leave, as we wouldn't know without doing a 2nd referendum tbh.
At the time almost 52% of those who voted did so to Leave, and voter turnout was 71.8% of those actually registered to vote, so even then not all British people eligible to have a vote as plenty aren't even registered at all. Only 37% of those who even turned up to vote at all voted Leave, so it's far far from a 'majority' at all.

Party over country I guess. It's really awful the way they've handled this and it's been going on for soooo long now, too.

british =/= england, it wasn't just england who voted, it was wales too which contributed to the entire nation 'exiting', you guys need to realise this is 4 countries at work, not just one

uhm scotland and NI voted in so

Reply

rivains March 23 2019, 16:04:12 UTC
ummmmm and is that my point? no. scotland and n.i. voted remain and england and wales voted leave, so it's really redundant to be like basically conflate britain/uk = england and seeing scotland/ni as separate entities and wales as a non-entity. do i agree with england and wales voting out? no. but at least if you're trying to be a know-it-all about a country at least try and get your fact straights and actually think about the language you use. when irish people talk about britain invading and colonising do they mean england and england only? no. they mean england, wales and scotland.
