Between this case and the college admissions case, 2019 is the year of the celebrity mail fraud scandal.

I expected none of this.

If Jussie can’t get a plea deal, I 100% expect him to be in prison longer than Felicity Huffman because he’s black.

It’s weird because it feels like the college scam reactions were mainly jokes and people saying “fuck rich people” while the Jussie stuff is SO MUCH more of a lightning rod. Like I’ve seen a lot of people just make cutesy memes for the college scandal. The Jussie stuff gets a lot more heated, as can be seen by any ONTD post about it.

My twitter timeline is a lot of jokes about the upcoming movie about this scandal. And then occasionally “this scam was ludicrous!”. I didn’t read much of the ONTD post about it, but I’ll keep my eyes on it in the future to see if the anger is there.

I think probably because this hurts all other hate crime victims

I think it’s just more polarizing in general, because some people believe he did it and others don’t and the disagreements people have make people willing to like dig into their arguments more in a heated way.

Everyone just agrees that the college admissions people are guilty. And since it’s not a violent crime there’s room for memes.

...paying to cheat the college system is worse than faking a serious thing like a hate crime?

No sis. I’m not downplaying the crime of buying a way to college but if Jussie is lying his situation could’ve actually gotten people physically hurt.

While true that people get fucked over and lose real chances to rich white people who don’t deserve it, what Jussie did (especially in this political and social climet) is really dangerous. And real hate crimes are not rare at all, so the fact that he allowed himself to put real people in real danger because he faked one is far worse..
