That's my question. Like, should they give the audience background for Numenor by starting with Elros? It seems like to accurately portray Numenor's downfall you need to know the significance of them not being able to sail west, aka you need to know who the hell the Valar are and what their place is in the Tolkien universe and the significance of the Edain being given the island in the first place.

But I also wouldn't mind starting with Celebrimbor in Ost-in-Edhil, so long as it's when Annatar shows up, not right when they're forging the rings 400 years later. I don't think they should blow through that very significant betrayal, especially when there's a chance to show Galadriel being distrustful of Annatar from the start, as she's going to be one of the only familiar characters to the majority of the audience. But I also really want to see some Elros and Elrond stuff. If Elrond is going to be a big part of the series, too, the audience deserves to know about Elros. There's just so many directions they could go with this series. I'm cautiously optimistic.
