10 Unexpected Singing/Dance Sequences in Film
With the popularity of a current music-themed film that has an Oscar winning song that may or might not have been a remake, it got me to thinking about musical moments in film that aren't musicals/music related. Did I say the word music yet? Inspired (but not really, this has been an old draft) by Entertainment Weekly's
dance breakouts, here's a look back to 10 unexpected singing/dance moments from movies.
10. Enchanted (2007)

Enchanted/Princess Giselle is based on bringing classic Disney princess tropes into real life, so a musical number was a must. You might be able to expect a sequel for Enchanted
soon.
9. White Chicks (2004)

We got Janet inspired moves in this very white dance off in White Chicks, while the Wayans brothers (or dance doubles) won with some break dancing moves.
8. Charlie's Angels (2000)

Natalie had her disco dream sequence and underwear dancing in the beginning of the movie, and brought her umm... bubbly quirkiness onto Soul Train.
7. Scooby Doo (2002)

(Nonsensical) Scooby Doo memes have made its rounds recently across social media but we can't forget this was a classiq. This is a scene of Linda Cardellini as Velma drunkenly singing "Can't Take My Eyes off You". No your memory was right, it wasn't actually in the final cut. I don't know why it was removed but it would've added more charm to the movie.
6. The Breakfast Club (1985)

This is the iconic montage from the breakfast club that danced their boredom away in a library. The Breakfast Club has been parodied in pop culture including Not Another Teen Movie, Lizzie McGuire, and Victorious.
5. Hocus Pocus (1993)

While Sarah Jessica Parker had her creepy children luring song, the producers knew they couldn't waste away the opportunity for Bette Midler to use her musical abilities as Winnie, performing "I Put A Spell On You". Some of us are still PEEPIN @ the hot skeleton man.
4. Beetlejuice (1988)

OP saw Beetlejuice for the first time last year and... guess I had to have grown up with it to appreciate the movie. But I know this scene with Harry Belafonte's "Day-O" is memorable amongst fans.
3. Buffalo 66 (1998)

Christina Ricci gave a charming tap dancing performance to "Moonchild" by King Crimson in the artsy fartsy Stockholm syndrome film Buffalo 66. Mya is rolling.
2. Teen Witch (1989)

Apparently this infamous rap scene was cooked up last minute, and the stars of the movie
gave an insight to how it all came together. IIRC there was one other singing performance in the girls locker room which was also random.
1. Romy and Michele's High School Reunion (1997)

There's nothing like a spontaneous modern dance performance after standing up to your high school bully. Romy, Michele, and Sandy gave closure to their awkward high school past to Cyndi Lauper's "Time After Time".
What other movies have performances that might've stuck out to you?
