Just 17 years ago, artists like Las Ketchup, DJ Sammy and Tweet were topping the charts. Many of the artists who created their major 2002 hits were never able to replicate the international success. However, their songs remain playable and always take us back in time. Let's take a look at some of the best one hit wonders of 2002!

TRUTH HURTS - ADDICTIVE

R&B singer Truth Hurts shook the radio with her single, "Truth Hurts." The song was her only one to chart on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at no. 9, and selling over 600,000 copies in the US. It was also a top five hit in UK, France and Switzerland, and went gold in several countries. The song samples a Hindi song, which eventually brought on a $500 million lawsuit.

KHIA - MY NECK, MY BACK (LICK IT)

Khia’s "My neck, My back" was released in April 2002. Due to its heavy explicit lyrics, the edited version of the song was released to mainstream radio and gave the rapper her first and only hit. The song reached no. 42 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. The song also reached the top five in the United Kingdom two years later and the top fifteen in Australia.

DIRTY VEGAS - DAYS GO BY

"Days Go By" is a song by the British electronic band Dirty Vegas originally released "Days Go By" in 2001 in the UK, where it initially peaked at no. 27. It became a US radio hit in the summer of 2002 thanks to the significant public exposure it got in a commercial for the 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse, peaking at no. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100. It also snatched the Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording. It re-entered and peaked at no. 16 on the UK Singles Chart, topped the UK Dance Chart, and reached no. 27 in New Zealand.

DJ SAMMY - HEAVEN

At the end of 2001, DJ Sammy and DJ Yanou released a dance cover of Bryan Addams’ "Heaven", featuring vocals by Dutch singer Do. In 2002, the song reached no. 1 on the UK Singles Chart and no. 8 on the US Billboard Hot 100.

JIMMY EAT WORLD - THE MIDDLE

Cue the "Hey! Jimmy Eat World isn’t a one hit wonder!" comments. But based on Top 40 hits, this is the bands only one. The band’s breakthrough hit "The Middle" peaked at no. 5 on the US Billboard Hot 100 in 2002 and reached the top 50 in Australia, Ireland, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

NAPPY ROOTS - PO' FOLKS

"Po' Folks" is the three time Grammy-nominated second hit single by Nappy Roots, making them sort of a double-hit wonder. "Po' Folks" was released in 2002 and taken from Nappy Roots' debut album. It peaked at no. 21 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, making it their one true mainstream hit.

NIVEA - DONT MESS WITH MY MAN

"Don't Mess with My Man" was released in August 2002 as the third single from Nivea’s self-titled debut album. The song peaked at no. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was an international hit as well, reaching the top 10 in France and New Zealand. In the United Kingdom, the song reached no. 33 on the Singles Chart. The song earned the Nivea a nomination for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals at the 45th Grammy Awards in 2003.

TWEET - OOPS (OH MY)

Tweet’s "Oops (Oh My)" was a commercial success in the United States, peaking at no. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topping Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. Additionally, it reached no. 5 on the UK Singles Chart. The song was bound for success, featuring Missy Elliott, who co-wrote the song with Tweet, and production handled by Timbaland.

LAS KETCHUP - THE KETCHUP SONG

"The Ketchup Song (Aserejé)" is the debut single by Spanish pop group Las Ketchup, taken from their 2002 debut studio album. It was released in the summer of 2002, and became an international hit later that year. This song reached no. 1 in the United Kingdom, as well as 26 other countries worldwide. In 2006, the song sold over 7 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling singles ever at the time.

DEFAULT - WASTING MY TIME

Canadian rock band Default released "Wasting My Time" as their debut single towards the end of 2001. The song is Default's only commercially-successful song, having reached no. 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and no. 3 and 2 on the US Modern Rock and Mainstream Rock airplay charts in 2002. It was also their first of three singles to top the Canadian rock airplay chart.
