I’ve been looking at cats for adoption for awhile now since my 20+ year old cat passed away awhile back but idk how to find the right fit really. Some are cute but I’m not sure if we click, however they surely are all scared in shelters or rescues or at the pet store (some groups here put rescue cats on display at the pet stores like Petco in a big communal room)
I had my other cat since she was barely a few weeks old so I took the loss hard, but I don’t want another kitten. More interested in rehoming an older cat. Yesterday I met a big fat orange tabby and a petite all black cat.
Ask if there's a seperate room someone can take the cat into so you can meet it better. When we adopted our new dog, they let us walk her around the grounds a bit.
Make sure to ask the employees at the shelter if you're looking for a specific type of cat! At the place I volunteer, they keep notes on all the animals including their play habits, sociability, etc.
I know some stuff doesn't show itself until they are out of the shelter, since it's such a stressful environment, so maybe look and see if anyone has a a foster-to-adopt program. You can bring the cat home, let them adjust and see if they are a good fit. If not, at least you've given them a break from shelter life for a bit.
