Same, Dakota, same. My Mirena saved my fucking life for like 3 years. Now I have a freakishly long period again, just not as heavy as before, and all my awful pmdd symptoms are back. I need to get my Mirena replaced but my insurance doesn’t cover IUDs, so I’m TRYING to save up to have it replaced this summer, but shit keeps happening.

FYI, you can also use NuvaRing to manage period symptoms too!

But if you're in the US and your insurance plan starts after 1/1/2014, an IUD and other birth control methods has to be covered. Thanks, Obama!

The only exceptions are insurance plans that are through a student, federal, or religious organization. So double check your benefits, boo!

I’m on Medicare, which isn’t required to cover birth control 😩 while it’s MOSTLY for seniors, there is a large chunk of people on disability who receive it. I thought Obamacare had me covered when I got my first one, then my insurance (Medicare but through private insurance) informed me I was screwed, and I had to pay $1,600 for an IUD that was placed improperly (after they screwed up the original one, took it out, and put another one in) and came out within 6 months.

I ended up getting another one from Planned Parenthood for $400, and that’s the amount I’m trying to save up now. Hopefully their sliding scale fees haven’t changed much.

bb I'm so sorry! What state are you currently in if you don't mind me asking???

(I'm a PP worker in CA, and I'm the person that works with insurance all the time)

You're welcome!! I'm glad it's been a good experience and you trust us with your care!

And yeah, after some googling, it looks like you wouldn't qualify for state funding because of Medicare (boooooooooo) :( but I know they'll work with you on sliding scales, and you can even ask about payment plan options. Call their main affiliate office, and I KNOW they will work with you. Good luck! <3 <3 <3

PP is amazing. I went there to get my first birth control about two years ago and omggggg it was the best experience ever. Same with my pap smear. I had the funniest woman do the whole thing and I was crying from laughter with her while we talked about shit. I felt so comfortable and relaxed the whole time.
