I hate that Glenn is finally going to Best Actress for something as bland and forgettable as The Wife. I don't think I would even put TW in Glenn's top 5 of her career. I hate makeup Oscars so much. Olivia Colman and Melissa McCarthy were the strongest performances in the category this year. GDI

Congrats to REG though. Hopefully he gets the BAFTA this weekend too

Makeup Oscars are the fucking worst because I usually feel bad about wanting the person not to win. I love Glenn Close, she deserves an Oscar, but not for this, gdi.

i think the favourite is a much better movie than the wife but i thought glenn's performance was still very strong and could match up to olivia's (didn't watch cyefm so i can't speak on that)

I agree. It's a lackluster movie, but Glenn elevates it with a performance that just drives the tension forward. There are scenes where we just watch her reacting to things around her without words and the rage and tension hangs thick in the air. She gave a great performance here. It's not Fatal Attraction good, but it's not like this is her Scent of a Woman. She's delivering here.

Whenever they show her seething in the background...

I wanted The Wife to be a better movie, but I thought it was better than her recent performances from the last 10 years (which is saying something, because she has been consistently amazing!).

I was preparing myself at the inevitable snub (of the Oscars win), but now that she's sweeping everything up, I'm cautiously optimistic that she will finally. get. her. goddamn. Oscar.

I really, really wish that Olivia Colman was taking that Oscar.
