ONTD Original

As we're seeing some internet changes cool, bad, and ideas we're unsure of, I couldn't help but think about what changes I'd like to see on other social media and other websites. @ ONTD web developers, computer engineers, Java Chip Script Frappuccino legends. We might see more amalgamations in the future, and/or sites just simply dying.

Now idk if these features already exist and I just don't know, and they might be accessible with a simple plug in to download. These are probably trash ideas but they can't be as messy as what FB has become.

Twitter__ β–’ βœ•

This post was sort of inspired by the fact I just discovered their 'lists' feature after imagining how convenient it would be... while it already exited lmao. Twitter has been decent in its changes over the years from its media options (remember the need for Yfrog and Twitpic?) and extended character count.

  • Placement of media and text: This is a simple idea but there should be an option to arrange the order of text and media within a tweet for effect, because photo/video uploads within a tweet are currently directly placed right under text. Place images in the middle of a tweet / being able to caption directly for different photos /etc.
  • Close activity for certain tweets/all tweets: Users currently can turn of notifications for certain tweets and private accounts automatically disables the retweet option. Some tweets don't need to be interacted with so how about an option to disable @'s and retweets for all.

Youtube__ β–’ βœ•

  • Group subscriptions: Basing off the Twitter lists concept, there should be a way to group subscriptions on YT. YT could take notes from this already made Google Chrome extension.
  • There were rumors of a Youtube backstage - a Youtube with more social components (oops if it already exists and I'm unaware), but I've been seeing the 'community' option where uploaders can post discussions and updates directly on their channel. They can extend this social experience like the YT Backstage concept - adding polls, etc.
  • For #contentcreators, a randomizing generator/raffle system can be useful for when they want to select input from users on special occasions (hosting giveaways, taking advice/topics for a future video).
  • This could be a hot mess idea but what about an option to reply videos with... videos. Instead of relying on 'related videos' and the algorithm, users can upload their own video or link to videos. It's probably best not to have this in the comments section, but on the side in a customizable and interactive playlist to further information on the video's subject, or get replies from users.

Pinterest__ β–’ βœ•

Where my Pinterest users at? Been planning your dream home? I don't have a lot of reccs other than editing the website's layout to fixed-sized rows (I know Tumblr has this option, idek if Pinterest already has this).

Craigslist__ β–’ βœ•

Okay, not a social media website BUT are we going to point out why this still looks like how it did since the beginning of its time? Maybe this is a 'don't fix it if it ain't broke' situation for a site that looks outdated and untrustworthy (which it kinda is at some extent). Are you fond of how it looks ONTD?

Myspace__ β–’ βœ•

W4w for nostalgia? - which is a possible way Myspace can get itself to start trending again. Even though it had its ball rolling back in the day, even opening its own music label and purchasing Imeem (shoutout to those who remember that), I've always hoped for a mini Myspace comeback.
  • Myspace 1.0 mode: The site now is a mess. The horizontal scrolling, the music streams is loading slow, messy layout. So while it might want to continue with its current look, how about bring back an optional '1.0' version of the good old blue and orange classic Myspace with small updates? Bring back the simpler interface, same old photo sharing and messaging system and integrate slightly new features.
  • Main reasons: easy layout making Again, for the sake of nostalgia and to give these new kids an insight of how it used to be. It wouldn't be a long-term success.
  • No? No. Okay.

Tumblr__ β–’ βœ•

Yes, it's a sjw but also nazi landfill... like the rest of the internet. I know your favorite porn blogs and OnlyFans... entertainers? influencers? whatever you call 'em all migrated to somewhere else with its recent policy changes. Now I don't know what else to recommend aside from its weak actions on reporting blogs that need to be purged.
  • I've always wanted an 'archive' feature for liked posts - an easier way to see all the post you've liked without constant scrolling, like what they already have in the monthly archive option of main blogs. I mean these days people are more passively blogging (liking+reblogging more things), so why not have an easier way to go back to search for older liked posts. Thats all I got.

  • Instagram__ β–’ βœ•

Instagram has also been decent with its updates (pseudo Snapchat [IG stories], saving posts without the need to like) even though it had its scares - from its momentary horizontal scrolling, to the apps' minimalist aesthetic people initially didn't like.
    • Private scroll without activity/browsing only mode. Oh, you accidentally liked a post from an ex's account that is 200 weeks old? How about we avoid that by having a way to browse the app PROTECTED from accidentally clicking a photo - not engaging in the possibility of liking, sharing, commenting, etc. Search, scroll, and browse as furiously as you want with a disabled activity option at the touch of your unsteady fingertips when ur cyber stalking. This could be a mode for other apps too.

    ONTD__ β–’ βœ•

I'll keep it cute here and recommend sumn simple.
    • GIF Keyboard: Plenty of apps and messaging systems already have this so ONTD would be an obvious place where we can react immediately without needing to embed media every time. Easy gif search, easy gif saving. @Russians
    • Also, is there a way to see all the posts you've submitted here? Asking for a friend.

    CANCEL IT ALL?
    __ β–’ βœ•

Maybe we should just cancel it all.

    Social media was a mistake - the power that that has, the dumbassery that that has, the negativity that that has, the access that that has, the influence that that has, the profile that that has, the toll on mental health and its implications that that has;

That or we can #gobacktothewayitwas and just use email?
