Wait what?

“because it’s his first offence prison time does not actually have to be served.”

So I can go rob a jewelry store in Spain and not go to jail for it?

In Spain, jail sentences under 2 years don’t need to be served. Messi got the same for his tax evasion.

So what’s the point of callin them jail sentences?

It’s a mystery.

I think it means that if you break any condition you will go to jail anyway and serve that time.
So there are probably some conditions attached to this sentence. At least... I hope so...

If you're Messi/Ronaldo/Shakira levels of rich, yeah.

Or if you're a Spanish royal or part of the family, of course.

In Spanish law if you're a first time offender and the prison term you're given is less than 24 months it's more surprising that you go to prison to serve it than not. It's usually done under probation, like this one for this trash heap of a human being. Definitely helps to be rich and pay a substantial fine though.

Right? It makes no sense. Why even sentence him at all if he doesn't actually have to serve?

only if you're rich and famous
