Stan & Ollie >>> most of these noms

Honestly the biggest shock I've seen this morning is that a lot of people apparently consider Emma the lead in The Favourite

stan & ollie was honestly such a wonderful movie, i wish it got a lot more love but basically only played in 4 theatres during its run. it was SO much better than most of the nods

really? emma's totally the lead since it follows her storyline more than the other two (from her downfall to rise alongside the queen)

I don't think The Favourite is really a story with a sole lead, but if I had to choose a specific main character, I thought Rachel got most of the focus.

i kind of love that everyone has a different interpretation of who the lead is. i see it as emma because the narrative follows her story, while others (including the awards) say it's olivia because she plays the QUEEN and thus the leader

yeah it's funny how divided people are over it lol

to me Emma is 100% the lead, but it's also an ensemble so at the end it's like w/e

ita, emma and rachel (to a slightly lesser extent imo) were clearly the leads. olivia was wonderful of course but her part was much more supporting to me.

yeah, IA that emma is the lead, because once rachel's story is done we dont see her again with emma finishing out the film

To me Emma was the lead of that movie since the whole journey is essentially her journey to position of the favourite. Her actions dominate the plot of the story.

Olivia to me since the trailer dropped was always a supporting character.

I mean if movies can have male and female leads, even though one of them is bound to get more screen time/narrative weight (lbr, it'd usually be the male), why can't "The Favourite" have two female co-leads in Emma and Rachel? Their screen time/narrative weight were probably more evenly split than among the leads in movies with a male and female lead.

If it were up to me, I'd have nominated them both for lead actress, and Olivia for supporting.

I mean, I think the only way to accurately nominate them would be to put all three of them in Lead Actress, but that was never going to happen anyway, lol. Swapping their current categories still would make more sense though

Emma was the lead tbh. You could argue that because the movie revolves around Queen Anne that she's the lead, but in terms of screen time - it's Emma, Rachel, Olivia.

IMO: Emma and Rachel are co-leads, Olivia is supporting. The movie is about Sarah + Abigail's crossing rise/fall and Anne is a more static character.

i agree. if i had to pick one it would be emma, but i would call emma and rachel co-leads
