Director Duncan Jones admits parenting sucks

I have 2 kids. 2 1/2 years & 9 months old respectively.
I’ll tell you something I never see anyone admit... they are exhausting, frustrating & life-destabilizing. They are rarely fun. Sure, smiles are great, hugs are lovely, but it’s HARD & not obviously a good choice in life.

I was in a store and a man was there with his son. I don't know how old the son was, old enough to have coherent, well-formed thoughts, but far from being a teenager. Anyway, this man was having a conversation with his kid and was just clearly enjoying him and enjoying listening to him and it was really cool to see how much he liked his son.

Months ago I walked behind this father and daughter, they were holding hands and he was laughing at a story she was telling and they were radiating with so much joy. Sometimes I find myself thinking about them and how happy that father looked and my biological clock demands I settle down and star breeding.

when i see this it gives me hope for the future. then i remember it's far from the norm and the people that should be having kids; the ones that plan for them or at the very least have the resources and forethought to care for them are not the majority of parents.

from what i've been told i was this type of child but i don't recall it at all.

I encountered the same thing a few days ago. The dad was actively listening to his son, answering all his curious questions and talked to him in such a great and encouraging manner. And because of this, the child took a few moments to answer back, think things through and ask more questions. I thought it was cute AF

as a teacher who works with kids daily, i can confirm that a large majority of parents are the actual worst and have zero accountability for their kids because they clearly dgaf and had them out of life obligation

omg the other day i saw a mum grocery shopping with their kid and while she was looking at stuff he dropped an entire carton of eggs, and then when she picked it up he chucked her phone on the floor plus a water bottle

felt so bad for her

A friend of mine is constantly bragging on Instagram about her kid but I saw her in person with the kid at a function and my friend acted so annoyed the entire time. Anytime the kid did something my friend was rolling her eyes or speaking condescendingly. It was kind of shocking tbh!

Some parents are so openly horrible to their kids. I'm not perfect, I've gotten frustrated and I've had to bite my tongue, but I've heard parents call their kids things like "stupid" and "idiot"

Aww yeah, it really makes me sad when you see the parents who just seem so frustrated and hateful towards their kids and snap at them (or literally scream) all the time for basically nothing. I mean I do get that kids are annoying, I’m not really a kid person myself lol, but it was their choice to be a parent at the end of the day? It’s not really fair on your offspring to then act like they’re this annoying burden that you can’t stand
