I can't compare him to anyone in known fiction.

I can’t off the top of my head either. Usually a character like him would only be dark and angsty with occasional moments of compassion (see the hound in game of thrones) but Richard is so refreshingly different. One of my favorite fictional characters ever.

I cried so hard at his last scene. I don't think I can watch the show ever again for that alone, it was just too sad

He is my all time favourite TV character. I was devastated he died, and for a few days afterwards every time I thought about it I teared up. It was like someone I’d known in real life had died. Even now, years later, when I saw him mentioned in this post I choked up a bit and felt sad. :-(

this is me too, I loved his character so much it became the reason I kept watching. My heart broke when he died. It also broke when Owen died but that was more bc I wanted Margaret to be happy
