November 16, 2018 To much of most of ONTD's disgust, J.K. Rowling's 'Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindewlald' naturally topped the Thursday box office, bringing in $9.1 million on Thursday night in the U.S. and Canada (on a $150M+ budget). This is slightly above the $8.8M brought in by its predecessor, 2016's 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them'.
'Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindewlald' is expected to bring in somewhere between $65M-$75M domestically this weekend, and at least $250M worldwide (including China).
Other big movies out this weekend include the critically-acclaimed drama 'Widows', which brought in $600K on Thursday (expected to bring in $12M-$18M on a $40M budget), and Marky Mark's latest trash 'Instant Family', at $550K (estimated to make $15M-$20M on a $48M budget).
Also out this weekend in limited release are 'Green Book', 'At Eternity's Gate', and ' Jonathan'.
