The 40th anniversary sequel (or whatever you want to call it) 'Halloween' starring Jamie Lee Curtis brought in $7.7 million in 3,200 screens in US/Canada on Thursday night. It's expected to bring somewhere between $50M-$70M this weekend (on a $10M budget, so well beyond a smash hit here).

Two of October's biggest hits, 'Venom' and 'A Star is Born', respectively, are predicted to drop to second and third, and Universal's critical hit and financial flop 'First Man' is hoping for the number four spot.

'The Hate U Give' finally expanded wider in the U.S., and brought in $300,000 on Thursday previews in 1,600 theaters. It already made $2.3M in the first two weeks of limited release.

Other movies out in limited release this weekend including 'Mid90s', 'Wildlife', 'What They Had', and 'Can You Ever Forgive Me?'
