I was pleasantly surprised by Ysabeau's casting since I thought they would have gone for someone younger and I am very DISAPPOINTED in Baldwin's casting as it ruins the de Clermont's hot family streak smh.
I like all the changes they're making so far and they're really highlighting how ridic the ~insta love plot is whilst not making fun of it or not being able to make fun of themselves and it's great!
Tbh anyone complaining about Lindsay Duncan is insane. I'm fine with Baldwin not being hot, given that he's suuuch a douche.
Matthew Goode may have finally tested the limits of my cringe endurance with the "what spell am I under?" line but I was still 80% here for that cheese.
I'm a little sad I haven't gotten the chance to see this yet but given the fact that I read the book and it seems that the show is keeping MOST of the cheese intact (from reading the comments, anyway), I'm a little shocked Matthew Goode took this role. It seems like exactly the kind of role he'd film and then shittalk after the check clears, like he's done in the past.
Give the show a chance. I am really not enjoying the books but living for the show.
They've trimmed the most egregious bits of cheese (yoga, etc.), added in way more backstory and side plots for other characters, and the chemistry between the two leads really helps sell their dumb love.
I'm surprised he took this as well but his performance absolutely elevates the show.
I hope to watch it once my computer is fixed! I'm on a loaner right now and I don't want to download or stream from a potentially-sketchy site on a borrowed computer.
He's done a couple of lengthier interviews where he comes across as pretty excited and happy with it. He joked that he wanted it to do well so he got paid for more seasons, but it sounded like both he and Teresa were hoping to keep going -- which you probably wouldn't if you were embarrassed by it.
He also said something cute about reading Harry Potter to his kids and then wanting to do something supernatural. Idk. This definitely isn't on a Leap Year/Watchmen level, and I feel like he only regrets it when he gets panned.
