"There’s a way of repeating in music that can hypnotize. I kept thinking to myself that it’s a form of making spells.” -

September 1, 2018 - Radiohead's Thom Yorke was tasked with creating the soundtrack for Luca Guadagnino's Suspiria remake.
- He initially thought director Luca Guadagnino was mad for asking, because Yorke had never scored a film before, but Guadagnino was determined and persistent (sort of like his pursuit of Sufjan for the CMBYN soundtrack).
- Yorke was intimidated by the prospect, especially with the soundtrack from the original film being so iconic, but knew he'd regret walking away from the opportunity.
- Likened writing the music to "making spells", citing the hypnotic nature of repetition in music.
- Used references from 1977 Berlin and his own musical influences from the time period, like Krautrock, to create something unique.
