maybe to make up for last year's lackluster awards lineup

This year seems more lacklustre tbh. There are very few contenders that I'm genuinely excited for.

i dunno, i feel like there's this never-ending stream of movies this year. THR's awards guy put his INSANELY long list of contenders, and no lie, a lot of them seem feasible:

Focus Features, Netflix, Fox/Fox Searchlight and A24 will definitely have a long awards season. I can see Annapurna's releases having initial buzz that'll die out, and Amazon has a weak slate save for Peterloo and Suspiria.

amazon's gonna push the fuck out of beautiful boy, especially the performances

I feel like I should be excited for BB for Timothee but the trailer is not inspiring much hope.

i really hope it's just a bad trailer. i went venturing through some film forums and the movie had two final cuts that were test screened, where one got praise and the other was shat on. here's hoping the good one is what we see and that the trailer is just... hiding the good stuff =/

Yeah I heard that too, although iirc most of the complaints were about editing. My main issue is that it just seems so bright and glossy for a movie about drug addiction.

i read EW's article about this (sounds like they've seen it) and they said there's some gruesome shit with tim's character vomiting and using and just being a big ole mess, and since they can't publicize that we gotta wait to see how raw it actually is when it's out

A Quiet Place doesn't deserve to be anywhere near best picture. And Fallout? I loved it but come on.

probably combining this with that dumb popular film category sigh

I keep seeing a quiet place on best picture lists (usually in like "possible contender" not "sure thing") and I'm like uh did I watch a different movie?

It was a perfectly decent horror/thriller that's all

It was perfectly serviceable as a "family friendly" horror movie, but it didn't really impress me. I didn't see it in theatres so maybe that makes a difference, but I kept hearing about how it was so innovative with the lack of dialogue and like...they didn't really do anything interesting with the sound thing at all?
