I'm trying to imagine how either of the parents have any money whatsoever. And I'm coming up with zippo.

What do they do to earn money? How do those kids have clothes and food and a home, etc? It's just crazy to me knowing what I have to pay each month and earn each month.

I think they own that big house they moved into on the show. As far as Kate, she makes money doing appearances(although idk who is booking her NOW) and I think they still do episodes of her show(???). Jon is an entirely different story because I literally don't know how he's living. He's had a few shitty jobs since the show but that's about it. I think he even said he couldn't get a job in IT(whatever he was in before the show) because of his notoriety.

That's what I'm saying-- he was a waiter at some restaurant and then that ended.

And she is on nobody's radar- I can't imagine that she has anything that is paying any kind of money.

They are pictured in houses, which means mortgages.

I just don't get it.

i fell down this rabbit hole a few weeks ago lol she has enough clout from tlc and mommy groups to shill cookbooks, public speaking at parenting events, and has enough social followers that she's probably selling spots on her accounts for ad revenue. they were making $$$ in their peak so the house is likely paid off entirely.

I just hate how she acts like she has nothing else to fall back on. Like nah, you could go back to being a nurse. I know a nurse's salary isn't feeding 8 kids but she maybe a little humility would be good for ol' Kate Gosselin.

Unless they put money away for college for each kid at the height of their fame, she needs all the money she can get.

I'm not disagreeing with this. But I still think she's a manipulative asshole for trying the "Wah I have nothing to fall back on so I HAVE to exploit my kids!". It's pretty obvious she likes the fame.

I think when the younger kids were born the governor/mayor/whatever of their home state said that all of the children could go to any state school tuition free. I hope Kate got that in writing tbh.

To piggyback on the person above me, iirc the governor made a fund for each of the kids when they were born so that they could have money to go to college.

It's not really that easy to go back to nursing. My mom did after she threw my father out but all the technology changed so much in the time she was a stay at home mom that higher paying hospital jobs were out although Kate has a totally different personality type where she could probably get into administration if she wanted.

I just remembered that Jon's parents are apparently pretty wealthy. It's rumored they bought J+K's first house and sent them a hefty check every month(and I totally believe it because HOW could those two people have made it before TLC money?). I'd say either Jon/Kate bought that big house outright with show money or the bank of Mommy and Daddy did.
