August 10, 2018 For everyone at 20th Century Fox, it's business as usual despite recently having
studio shareholders approve a $71.3 billion merger with Disney that would give up control of its movie and TV assets. A recent article by the Wall Street Journal discusses the uncertainty over at 20th Century Fox.
Despite all of that uncertainty and woe there was some news about one of Fox's most successful animated TV shows. Fox is currently developing a Family Guy feature film that would be a mixture of animation and live action. The Family Guy film would be joining the previously announced Bob’s Burgers: The Movie and the sequel to 2007's The Simpsons Movie.
According to the source: “[CEO Stacey] Snider has emphasized a revamp of Fox’s approach to animation, bringing in a new partner to replace an expired deal with DreamWorks Animation after it was acquired by Comcast Corp. The film studio is partnering with the Fox television studio on a big-screen adaptation of the animated series Bob’s Burgers, a second Simpsons movie in development, and a Family Guy film that would mix animation with live action, said people with knowledge of the projects.”
Bob’s Burgers: The Movie is set for a July 17th 2020 release date while both The Simpsons sequel and Family Guy film have not received an official release date. With the Disney acquisition deal still looming, it doesn't quite guarantee that those last two projects would actually be made and/or released. Based on the article by the WSJ, their fate and several other projects over at 20th Century Fox depend on Disney and their development status once the merger is complete.
