July 20, 2018 It's sequel weekend, y'all! “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again” opened on Thursday night with an estimated $3.4 million at 2,850 theaters in North America. Denzel Washington's “The Equalizer 2” came in a close second with $3.1 million at 2,934 theaters in the U.S./Canada.
'Mamma Mia!'s expected to make around $30M-$36M this weekend, while 'The Equalizer' will make around $27M-$32M this weekend, so it's pretty close overall. Also out this weekend is the sequel “Unfriended: Dark Web” (expected to make $6-8M) and the indie dramedy 'Blindspotting'. Or wait till next week for 'Mission: Impossible' SIX to be out (which already has critical acclaim).
