Being "a real-life transgender" and "assuming the identity of a man" are not the same thing right?

no and in this case the man was a real life transman who identified as a man.

This wasnt like some wacky comedy type situation like Bosom Buddies

Did they ever come out as Trans, because while people have used "transgender" they have also referred to them as a Lesbian, and said they assumed the identity of a man.

I Googled to find a profile and found this:

"For awhile, DeLucia’s business partner was Dante “Tex” Gill, an overweight Brentwood woman who dressed like a man in suits and ties, wore short hair and sideburns and preferred to be called “Mr. Gill.” A lesbian, Gill married Cynthia Bruno of Dallas, Texas, in Hawaii and lived with her in Pittsburgh before the couple eventually split."

Yeah, the only sources from before this week about Dante I can find is that she was a woman who fucked with expectations. She died in 2003, it isn't a matter of the language not existing for her to define herself.

If someone shows me an older source that says Dante was trans, I'll totally take it, but I get the impression that the people making this movie just can't use language or handle gender fuckery, so they tried to force her into the binary and everyone's responding to that.
