2018 Emmy nominations: EW picks the 50 dark horse contenders who deserve attention

June 22, 2018 EW made a list of 50 shows/actors who will probably not be nominated for Emmys, but who they think should be in consideration. Some of their choices are absolutely ludicrous (Riverdale? I mean, I know you guys have lots of posts about it, but I haven't seen anyone here argue that it deserves Emmys), but some are sensible and correct. Here are a few of their better picks!
Best Comedy - BoJack Horseman
Not sure why BoJack keeps getting ignored by award shows. Maybe it's not taken seriously because it's animated, maybe it's because it doesn't fit neatly into a drama or comedy box, but it's easily one of the best shows on TV right now.
Best Drama Lead Actress - Kerry Bishé (Halt and Catch Fire)
I've never seen Halt and Catch Fire, but I have seen multiple ONTDers making a case for this actress, and EW concurs. They posit that the fourth and final season of HACF may have been her best work as Donna Clark.
Best Drama Lead Actor - Cillian Murphy (Peaky Blinders)
As if getting to look at Cillian Murphy's cheekbones isn't enough, he infuses his portrayal of gangster Tommy Shelby with more complexity and nuance that an actual person in his position would posess. Watch Peaky Blinders on Netflix!
Best Comedy Lead Actress - Constance Wu (Fresh Off the Boat)
Constance Wu is the one person everyone talks about when they praise Fresh Off the Boat. And now that she's going to be in a movie (Crazy Rich Asians), watch out, because Emmys love movie stars.
Best Comedy Supporting Actor - William Jackson Harper (The Good Place)
If it were up to me, this entire list would be composed of The Good Place actors (D'arcy Carden is on here, too!), but Harper's portrayal of Chidi is especially excellent. He takes a character that could be extremely annoying, and makes the audience empathize with him and the predicaments he finds (and puts) himself in, from The Good Place to The Bad Place and everywhere in between.
