Godless is a women-led western that focuses on a group of widows who lost their husbands in a mine collapse and must protect their homes. The 7-episode limited series is available on Netflix. Scott Frank originally wrote it in 2004 as a movie, but could not get it made.

Frank says every actor who was on a horse had to take part in a miniature "cowboy camp." Jack O'Connell spent ~2 months working with horses pre-shoot and Jeff Daniels was on horseback as often as possible; he also kept a horse by his trailer and rode barefoot.

Frank also rode a horse a lot himself, including to go quickly between the camera and the action, which was sometimes far away. In those moments he repeated the mantra, "Don't fall off in front of the actors, don't fall off in front of the actors."
