A good finale that wasn't mentioned is Angel. Idk I just really thought it felt true to the show.

As a whole, I like Buffy more, but in terms of finales, Angel's was better.

(lmao I am a bitter af Cordelia stan and HATE how Joss treated Cordelia/Charisma in the final seasons of Angel which soured me on the show as a whole, but I still thought the finale was greate)

agreed, perfectly tied into the themes of the show, and managed a nice balance in spotlighting all its main characters, unlike the buffy finale

Buffy's finale is serviceable and it has its moments. But yeah it's just a middle of the road finale.

Angel's finale was much better, imo.

i prefer the gift as a finale even though i like the general message of chosen better. it's just not a great ep and it has all the narrative issues of s7, which i already don't like much.

Same, one of the best open ended finales that stayed true to the tone of the show. Though I'll always remain bitter over Cordy I do think Angel has a whole has aged better then Buffy even though I still probably enjoyed Buffy more overall.

YES. It made me cry but it was the perfect way to end, true to the core of what the show was about (at one point, lol).

Yeah, I think it's the fact they weren't afraid to do big things like killing off or writing out characters up to the end; whereas the Buffy finale is so calculated and gutless, every character's exit or survival seems based around 'Would they do future Whedon projects?' or 'Can we throw a bone to shippers?' (for B/A AND B/S, which tonally is really off - like, Angel's just come from losing his son and Cordelia in a coma to 'Cookie dough puns!')

Yes! It's one of my all time favourites. Angel, the show, really benefited from having a strong central theme. They didn't get much warning that the show was ending but they knew what the show was and were able to write to that theme.
