The Originals is ending, so this spin-off can replace it I guess. They cancelled Life Sentence and that other new show already. They also are gaining 2 hours of programming on Sundays. The CW also is doing more 13 episode seasons, so they can fit in more shows that way.

CW is moving to shorter seasons. They will only have a handful of full 23 episode shows. Hell they only have 5 full time shows right now and one of those is suppose to get slashed in half. So all of these will most likely get 13-18 episodes.

I wish. Riverdale was hurt by this extented season. If it was up to me I would show 13 ep seasons all year around with little to no breaks instead

I think the CW leans towards giving a lot of their shows short seasons and having 2/season/slot.
