Variety is reporting that director David Gordon Green is in final talks to direct a reimagining of Friday Night Lights for Universal.

Sources say the studio has toyed with the idea of a sequel to the original 2004 film and a big screen continuation of the 2006-2011 television series but will now be going in a new direction, with a new Texas setting, story, and cast of characters.

Nothing else about the film has been announced. Green's next film, Halloween, will be released in October.
