So glad you made a post, OP!! Getting ready to return to LA today from my NYC theater trip, so this post feels appropriate.

The only productions I saw that have been nominated this year were My Fair Lady, Angels in America and Farinelli and The King. I wanted to see Three Tall Women, The Band's Visit, Harry Potter and a bunch more, but there either wasn't time, they were too expensive or they were sold out. :(

Farinelli was fine, not really my thing but Mark Rylance was great in it.

My Fair Lady was wonderful, and Lauren Ambrose and Harry Hadden-Paton both deserve nominations. Diana Rigg getting a nomination is pretty damn suspec,t considering she only has two scenes and doesn't have a song, but she is the Queen of Thorns so I'll allow it.

Angels in America is probably the best play I have ever seen, and I hope it wins a bunch of awards. It got a bunch of noms, which is great, but I'm pissed that Lee Pace didn't get one. I've never felt one way or another about him before, but he was amaaaaaaaaazing (though I realize a lot of people didn't feel that way, which confuses me). I was excited to see Andrew Garfield, but it honestly felt like he overdid it a bit in Part One. He was brilliant in Part Two, though. And Susan Brown and Denise Gough were both great throughout.

Hoping I get to see a couple more productions when I come back in June.

Oooh, yay!

I was a little worried, since I only knew Lauren Ambrose as Claire from SFU and really could not picture her as Eliza, but she was great. If you like the music/movie, I am almost positive you'll enjoy this production.

my rec for harry potter is to go straight to the box office and see if tix are available. i did that weeks ago and got some in an opera box for 140 total for both shows (though this was in previews and cheaper)

How does angels in America work? Do you see both parts in one day or? Buy tickets separately?

I saw both parts in the same day - they do the marathon on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and then do one part a day on Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays. They make it really hard to buy tickets for just one part - I think you can at the box office, but typically they sell them together and you get the same seats for both parts. On marathon days, there’s a 2.5 hour break between parts when you can go get dinner.

I would definitely rec seeing both parts, though I would have preferred to do one per day just bc my neck and back started to hurt after that much squished sitting in one day.

I’d check stub hub - it’s hard to resell for this show for a bunch of reasons, so the people who do are listing the tickets at pretty good prices. I got a great deal on front row tix the day before the show.

It’s a long couple of plays, but honestly, the time flies by.
