last weekend i went on a day w/ someone who works in the service/food industry, and he didn't leave a tip at the coffeeshop we went to. like...what the fuck. also he was just really depressing and moping and i told him (not even being mean) to see a therapist b/c they're amazing. he texts me everyday dumping his emotional bullshit on me.
i swear, some people (men) just go on dates bc they don't wanna pay for therapy. i've done so much emotional labor for strangers like i'm done, i'm charging next time lmao
i barely even respond. he'll send me paragraphs about how he has to work but couldn't get out of bed until time to leave and can't bear* to clean his home. like...i really understand, but it's depression and i can't be bothered to care about you after...1 date. that i spent then entire hour and a half wondering when it'd be appropriate to leave without seeming "rude."
I didn't know tipping at coffee shops was the standard and I used to work in one lol usually they just have a tip jar and I leave a tip if I have cash and don't when I don't. Unless you mean y'all had lunch and a waitress there in which case I would definitely tip. But tipping baristas doesn't seem to be standard where I'm at.
It’s not. I used to work at a coffee shop too lmao. If you make less than minimum wage at a coffee shop then you need to take that up with your employers.
The ones by me, Starbucks and Coffee Bean & Tealeaf have a tip screen that comes up when you use your debit card. Gives a 5, 10, 15, 20% add on option before the final purchase screen.
I don't usually tip, but mainly because all I ever get is an iced green tea from either spot.
yeah i still get pretty confused over this when it comes to starbucks. the ones in my town are located in target and then the barnes and noble cafe that "ISN'T STARBUCKS" but still has all their branded products. they're absolutely not allowed to accept tips at target and can get in trouble for it apparently?
also i don't tip if i'm just getting a simple latte/no food etc. if the thing i ordered took less than 5 mins to make with an even inexperienced barista, i don't feel that this warrants tipping? i think more high-end coffee shops might be a little different since the ones in my town are usually understaffed but they're also rude and condescending so i don't go there either.
Yeah from what my friends have told me, Starbucks located inside some other franchise = no tips. Weirdly, my local Starbucks store however does NOT have one of those screens that pops up to leave a tip on your card, so I still only tip if I have cash.
i always tip at restaurants or places where i am served at a table (or when i get delivery) but i have never tipped when i order coffee at a counter. maybe i'm a jerk.
i wasn't. i was genuinely shocked that people were questioning why i found it strange someone didn't tip at coffeeshops. but i don't come on here to argue over the internet, so this will be my last reply.
