i mean one could argue at least they're there to keep an eye on their kids lol but she seems to only be there with (what i think is) his brother who looks just a bit older than her

sure, but it's common (esp. in Cali) for parents to bring their kids, let them get dressed up in ways they normally wouldn't, etc.

they don't look tight enough to be cornrows to me but I'm not sure

im always confused bc i've seen braids this loose before and people have called them cornrows and others call them ~french braids lol so i never know
