The only thing I can think is that the staff figured the homeless man would return everything for cash. Which,aside from the gift certificate, he would be allowed to do. All the items were purchased so they can be returned for any reason within the allowable time. And honestly, this is discrimination and profiling.

well, the homeless person would need the receipt. Otherwise, they'd just get a gift card for store credit.
Which, in theory, the person could get some beer for.

But yes, none of their business.
