Everyone loves Godless, the new Netflix show about a town inhabited only by women

  • Godless is a 7 ep miniseries on Netflix written and directed by Scott Frank about a town run entirely by women that must defend itself after an outlaw hunted by a rival gang seeks refuge there
  • It stars Jack O'Connell, Michelle Dockery, Scoot McNairy, Merritt Wever, Sam Waterston and Jeff Daniels
  • According to Jessica Chastain around 2011 the miniseries was floating around as a movie script focused on the women. She tried to get it made but no one would give it money

I used the subtitles to determine what constitutes a new line.

I've included the [speaks in Paiute] as best I could as women's lines. I did not include the [Grunts] or [Sighs] though believe me, this would only have dramatically increased the count for men.

It also seems relevant to note that, as a plot point, the leading male character spends half the episode unable to speak.

And yet.

I was hoping to make this when I met the writer in 2011. At that time it was a 2hr film script & focused on the women. It was AMAZING. I was told for a long time that it couldn't get financed. I hope that the trailer doesn't represent the series. It was such a fantastic story.
