I recently started dating a guy about 5 years older than me, which I didn't think would be a big deal but it's starting to dawn on me that he is a Real Adult and I am 26 with 6 roommates.

eh tbh mid 20s with roommates is a stark truth to what being an adult is these days, especially if you live in a city

I mean, his apartment is probably as shitty as my house, he just doesn't have roomies

I feel like you shouldn't be able to date older unless you have your own house haha

wut? that's not realistic considering the housing crisis we're in.

right... so I'm just never supposed to date if I can't afford to live on my own? wtf.

LOL this PHD student I threw myself at ages ago was 5 years older than me. I'm happy it didn't work out tbh. He's moved across the country and is starting to resemble my dad. And he's got a gf more than 10 years younger than him. Oop @ me for thinking he didn't want me because of the age difference.

That's pretty much the boat I was in this summer.
In the end it didn't work out because he wasn't mature (or honest) enough to talk about problems between us. :|

Mainly he stopped talking to me, but acted like everything was fine when we met...
I even asked him face to face if something's wrong... but the answer was always no. Because he didn't have the guts to talk to talk to me directly.

2 weeks later, I sent him a looong text, asking him AGAIN what's wrong, and telling him that it's not okay that he's ignoring me, but then acts like everything is fine, and the end of it was that he told me that he "sort of lost interest because he's supposed to keep in touch with me".
Like... what kind of shitty excuse is this? UGH.

That's a hard pill to swallow. One of my exes was 4 years older and the differences became more clear as our relationship went on.
