  • They shot all the scenes with the little girls first because they had to go to school
  • This scene shows Kirsten's character is more of a town girl and is A okay with exposing her shoulders

They're pretty high. It has a 79 on metacritic which is really good: http://www.metacritic.com/movie/the-beguiled

Putting it in perspective it's her best reviewed movie since Lost in Translation.

So filming by candlelight to be accurate and stay true to the 1800's is doable but having any black folks in the confederate south just "didn't work" for this film...

So historical accuracy matters for ambiance, but not for racial diversity.
