Wow, I remember someone linking to the buzzfeed article awhile back, I had no idea they were making this a doc.

I used to love true crime but then I met a girl who was actually involved in one of those true crime stories and it turned my stomach for a bit. I still don't really watch true crime shows but I do hope I can get it together to see this because it sounds really interesting.

Sometimes I'm watching the ID Channel and I realize how fucked up this all is. Finding entertainment in people being brutally murdered? It's so disturbing

This is why I left the My Favorite Murder podcast and facebook group. The people in there were way to gleefully to talk abotu horrific murders with smiley emojis and expclamation points. It was really gross.

I listened to one ep of that podcast and just couldn't do it anymore. I am fascinated by true crime and I'm usually pretty detached, but I like watching and listening to shows that treat things seriously and not turn it into a damn joke.

In one episode they were cracking jokes about a girl who was kidnapped and murdered and I always believe there should be a certain line of respect for the victims in true crime and a sympathy for their lives being taken by horrible people.

There are some good ones out there, though. I really like Generation Why and the Truth and Justice Podcast. Serial season one was good also. Just like with everything else there are gonna be a few fuckups here and there.

I read this article about a really fascinating case where a girl went missing in my state. I saw that there was a podcast about it but when I went to listen I couldn't even make it through two episodes. These jerk-offs were basically throwing out the most insane theories just to believe the victim (who was admittedly troubled) was some criminal mastermind who didn't really die (no body was ever found) but ran off with some secret lover nobody ever knew about when there was zero evidence. It was the weirdest shit. I couldn't handle it. I don't like how a lot of these podcasts handle the material. They aren't sensitive about it at all.

The things they do and say in order to get someone to subscribe or donate to their patreon is horrendous for a lot of true crime podcasts. They think they have to do insulting shit just to get people to find them interesting instead of just telling the story and being respectful to the victims. Last Podcast on the Left loves making jokes about true crime stories they cover and they recieve about $20,000 a month from their patreon fans.

I had to suffer through the Chris Benoit episode and the jokes they made about him killing his family were really horrible. Even towards the end when they talked about people getting help for their mental problems didnt feel like even a little of enough for the slamfest they had regarding the murder suicide of him and his family.

I hate shows like this now. I used to watch Dateline and 20/20 crime episodes but feel like they are way too sensationalized and disturbing to be considered entertaining. These were real people after all.

I used to love watching The First 48 and then I was watching an episode and they told a mom off-camera that her son had been killed and you could hear her breakdown and I just couldn't anymore. I recently marathoned Forensic Files, but it's not the same. I can't stomach it anymore.

The First 48 seemed to do that a lot. There was one episode that destroyed me where they brought a dad in and he just kept asking "does she need money? What's her bail at?" etc. etc. and then they told him she was killed and it was gut wrenching. Just awful.

or how ONTD is so disturbed by GOT and other shows that have violence against women, then love true crime stuff featuring abuse to women? hmm.

yeah i dont think its bad to enjoy either of those things really (in moderation) but the lack of self awareness is baffling.
