The place comped 123 off 200 and then she didn't leave a tip. Fuck people who don't tip and try to game the system to not leave a tip.

Motherfucker cook at home.

Seriously, whenever i get my meal comped for something out of the server's control, i usually leave a generous tip. It isn't the server's fault that something went wrong with the food

Yeah, even if the food is not good, I just leave a decent tip then I just don't return to the restaurant. Even the one time my family had a really horrible experience at an Applebee's with a racist server, we still tipped her 15%. For us that's low, but I would never not leave a tip.

I'm a great tipper but why would you leave a tip to a server that was an asshole, let alone a racist??

We kind of did it out of spite, it was Applebee's so it wasn't much lol , but my parents made it a point that people she didn't like made contributed to her wages. We actually went to high school together and she always apologized to me in the hallway and I would stare stone faced at her. We left her a tip in a pretty humiliating way, making sure that every diner knew how she acted toward us. Also my parents tip all the time lol, they felt weird about it.

She got fired after the incident, so that helped feel vindicated.

Ooooooohhhhhhhh okay that changes everything tbh

I just thought that your parents have left the tip and that's it, but everything makes sense now lol I'd probably do the same tbh

That's restaurant based and I've never met anyone who worked anywhere they shared tips rather than took all themselves.

it's common. you tip out to the bus boys/bartenders because you need them. don't tip out, you won't be getting much help from support staff

you wouldn't know it if you did (it's not on your receipt or anything) but a vast majority of chain restaurants do tip out 3% (1% each) of the servers' total to hosts, busboys, and bartenders

I have to give 20% of my tips to the bar and barracks and then I split my tips w/the other server(s). It's actually very common at bar/restaurants.

servers may not share tips with each other, but servers ALWAYS tip out busboys and bar staff

That is so not cool, i am sorry that happened to you. If there ever was a time to not leave a tip, that would be it. You are a good person to still leave that cow a tip

I actually like when an error happens, because it gives me a chance to see how the server handles it. And when they handle it well, I make sure to tip accordingly.

Seeing this receipt... It's burgers. How much you wanna bet the server asked the table, "rare, medium, well done?" They ordered medium-rare, cut into it, and complained about it being too rare? This shit would drive me fucking bonkers when I worked at Islands. Even after explaining to customers, "Medium means a little pink in the middle."

And that's not the server's fault if it's cooked wrong like what do you want them to do, cut into your steak before the serve it to you? It doesn't necessarily mean they didn't specify the order to your liking.
