look, there's a lot to say about racism in italian-american culture and i have my own family to prove it

but that desperation came from immigrating here and being treated like trash. they weren't allowed to speak their own language and had to blend in as much as possible to even get a shitty job

it's really fascinating AND depressing

but lol at using the sopranos as any idea of what the average italian american has gone through

it's so frustrating, too. my grandfather was heavily discriminated against as a child growing up in nj. he was bullied by cops, he was ignored in school, he didn't even graduate from high school.

but he's also grown in to everything he hated as a child. he's racist and oblivious and truly living in some trump la la land.
