- "The Final Problem" had a viewership of 5.9 million, the smallest audience ever for the show. However, the BBC hopes that final viewership will be higher after people catch up on iPlayer
- Critics were divided over the finale, with the Daily Mail giving it zero stars and The Telegraph praising the writing
- There has been no formal announcement of a fifth season, but Gatiss and Moffat haven't ruled it out
