i feel like I'm the only one sometimes, who finds their portrayal of bipolar disorder insulting, and infuriating instead of "brave and compelling".

I think they do it pretty well. Every case is different. Carrie is her own brand of cray.

I thought it started off great and then kind of went downhill. :(

I gave up on this show after season 2 so idk what it's like recently, but the way it's portrayed in the earlier seasons is generally way less gross than that plot blurb in the post (like "despite being bipolar," what???). it still edged pretty close to a cheap "character flaw" approach in those earlier episodes tho.
