I feel so dumb when I think about how I loved that song as a teenager, especially the line, "Life is hard enough when you belong here," which really appealed to my "life is shit and no one understands meeee" sullen teen angst. The racism completely escaped me until I heard it again as an adult. I think my ignorant ass may have even thought "Bengali' was someone's name, since it rhymed with "Sven Gali," who was a character in Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego?
