My PE teacher asked me do some chalk-letterring for his wedding, because someone told him I went to art school. I hope he'll pay me at least.

I gave him sketches and he loved them, but then he went on about his fiance cooking for me as a thank you gesture and missed the paycheck part. It felt awkward as fuck, because I actually spent a whole day sketching. Fuck this Food Network shit I'm not even eating that much exept for raw fruits/beans/veggies, give me some coins (or your D, I saw your shirtless photos on facebook, woof!)

Because generally in Russia everyone thinks artwork is not that big of a deal. And the teacher thinks I'm just a graduating scholboy who will probably don't need the money if he lives with his parents. It was kinda werid to talk about the paycheck with a PE teacher

hey as a fellow art school student, i know it's hell when your family friends acquaintances and their mums think you'd do anything for free and for fun and on top of that think it's quick. I mean it's your job, no one is going to ask a cook for a free meal just because they can and like to cook, so how is it any different jfc! Sorry, i have a lot of feelings abt this lol

Like, it's not specific to Russia, people everywhere think art has little or no value in situations like this and that won't change until we start placing a value on our own work and informing others that our work has worth and deserves the respect of being treated like any other business.

people think that because artists often end up doing art out of passion it's okay to pay them less if not at all because hey! it's fun! Like yes i enjoy what i do but the holy ghost of art and design is not what is gonna pay my bills and feed me, right?
