It's actually really bothering me that the lead is male? Even though the last thing I want to do is watch this damn movie.

Yeah, I actually do know a couple male fanfic writers, but basically every fandom I'm even sort of familiar with (which includes fandoms I'm not a part of but that my friends are) has mostly female fanfic writers.

I've met exactly two in the 13 years I've been in fandom. Granted, I've met a few more men in fandom in general, but only two that ever wrote fanfic. The other men in fandom that I know laughed at the idea of "lowering" themselves to write fic, even though they were up on Twitter & Tumblr reblogging the crap out of everything. Of course there are guys out there who write fic, but you can't tell me that the vast majority of fic writers aren't women.

LOL, absolutely. i write fic and my bf doesn't, even though he's into video games and star wars and other geeky stuff. in the two years we've been dating i've talked a bit about fic and i think i've helped break down at least some of his "LOL HOW PATHETIC" original views on fanfic. he was talking the other day about how he'd love to take some movie, ignore the ending, and carry on the story... i was like "you know that's fanfic, right?" and he was like "but... i..." and i gave him a look like >.< and he was like "....you're right. i'm sorry :( ". sigh. boys.

haha, yeah, that's pretty much like us too. my bf is either reverent about a movie and you could NEVER touch it (when he found out i used to write Inception fic he was like "HOW COULD YOU EVEN POSSIBLY?! THEY TOLD THE STORY THEY WERE MEANT TO TELL!!!!" lolllll), or he thinks it could have been done SO much better if x, y, and z had happened. no middle ground. either it's perfect or it needs a buttload of work. i love the boy but dang he's exhausting sometimes. though sometimes we'll be watching something and he'll look at me and be like "...you want fic about these two, don't you" and i'm like "I JUST HAVE TO CHECK AND SEE IF IT EXISTS!!!!!" and if it doesn't he'll kiss the top of my head and go, "you write the crap out of it, then." so he's not all bad.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one bothered by the fact that the lead is a male.

IKR? Personally I don't know any male fanfic writers period. When I was writing a ton of fic, all the slash writers I knew were female.
