Spielberg says the #OscarsSoWhite problem is actually rooted in a lack of diversity among filmmakers, screenwriters and studio executives.

obviously, that's the point...i don't think anyone thinks this is just an issue within the Academy

I've seen so many comments on her and tumblr with people talking about the Academy but not addressing the issue of most movies not reflecting the world we live in now.

It's totally the same thing as people tone-policing BlackLivesMatter as AllLivesMatter. The problem is everywhere and it needs to be tackled simultaneously in as many places as it can. That is the only way change is going to soak in.

Except that the fact that there were black films being made that were still not being recognized--which shows that excuse is a bit BS. Like even if the big ones aside from BoNN weren't the best, neither were some of the white-dominated movies nominated.

I think it's a problem on both sides, Steve.

THE SAME PEOPLE WHO ARE MEMBERS OF THE ACADEMY OF MOTION PICTURE ARTS AND SCIENCES GOD!

Why do so many people not seem to understand that?

-"We're not racist we nominated Lupita two years ago and that was it"

-"I'm not racist I have black children" Congrats? Shut up!

That's not actually true though, the majority of people who work and run Hollywood are not members of the academy.

Maybe not every director, and I wouldn't expect it of people who literally run cameras and do makeup and effects, but directors, producers, the people who can actually hire diversely - they're in there. The Academy has 6k members.

My parents are older, my mom was in her 20's during the 1960's and trying to overcome my colorblind upbringing has been work but having people educate me is why I tried. Why can't other people at least hear from the people it directly affects and say "oh I see why that's hurtful to you, let me work on myself?!?" Grrrr

Ugh I hate these colorblind comments so much. Don't people realise that colorblind people literally see the world in black and white... smh

And him bringing up his black children, with a dad that's raising them like there ain't racism, they are fucked.

Well atleast they can live in a bubble of privilege and probably won't have to deal with problems that most black people have to deal with.

“Look, I have two black children, you know? I’ve been colorblind my entire life,” he said.

oh boy...

it is the new I have a black friend line
urgh I literally can't and the fact that he said, he's colour blind. If you're colour blind, don't have black children, cause you won't be able to equip them with the right attitudes when they go out in the real world
