drunk drivers piss me off. i get off at 1 AM and i have to drive through a street where all the bars are to get home and i swear i almost get hit by swerving drivers atleast one or twice a night on the weekends..
like idgi, i'm too paranoid about getting a DUI that i won't even drive after 1 drink. i don't think i've ever seriously wanted to drive when i was drunk so idk why people think it's a good idea, even when intoxicated.
If you mix alcohol with certain other drugs like coke, a lot of the time you don't actually feel impaired at all even if you definitely are and driving doesn't seem like such a terrible idea in the moment even if it definitely would've been.
Idk, I've definitely had the opposite experience. Like if I'm mixing stimulants and alcohol I definitely feel a lot sharper and more energetic and ready for whatever than if I was just drinking. I've never driven drunk or anything but I have on a few occasions ridden with people who should not have been driving and I'm pretty sure the stimulants aided their thinking that they were ok to drive.
I understand where you're coming from, honestly even with just alcohol you shouldn't ever be driving if you've had a single drink imo because with varying levels of tolerance your BAC may not always line up with the mental clarity you feel you have. Add adderall or coke or something and I can totally see how you might feel totally fine...even though a little part of you would still be scared if you were pulled over.
The little portable breathalyzer tests usually aren't accurate enough to be admissible in court (though it you refuse it you're definitely going to jail) and the roadside DUI tests are designed for you to fail them so the whole process of getting arrested is subjective anyway. However smart or confident you feel, it just isn't worth it imo.
You're right. Impaired driving doesn't always equal a .08. Some people will feel impaired at .02 just because of their inexperience with drinking. So always, ALWAYS err on the side of caution.
For others, who can have a drink without feeling impaired, it's important to keep in mind that you can only burn off one drink per hour. I think this is important to keep in mind so that you don't ever walk home alone (always have someone with you) or drive after more than one drink. It's just better to play it safe all around.
Mte, this has been my experience. I take ADHD medication and sometimes when I mix it with alcohol (obviously not intentionally) I feel really "sharp" and energetic. I've observed the same when people mix alcohol + Red Bull. I bought a mini BAC tester that I carry with me just to be safe.
Drinking often comes with a sort of high before people notice those effects, in my experience. It's like the "Wooohooo I'm dancing on tables!!!" moments that precede the head-in-toilet moments. And yeah, that's without the influence of stimulants.
A former friend of mine got offended and insisted on driving herself home when I offered to drive her car home after she got wasted at our friends house. Smh
