Summary: Leeteuk’s dream was to become a solo artist, but his looks won’t let him become one. Kangin is a famous music producer who has helped many famous solo artists. When Leeteuk meets Kangin, what will happen to them? Will Kangin help Leeteuk become a solo artist?
A/N: So here I go… this is my 3rd chaptered fic :3 I was inspired by the song “Maria” from the movie “200 pounds of beauty.” I hope you enjoy reading this fic ^^;
It’s hard to reach a desired dream. That’s what Leeteuk thought when he was rejected from this music company.
“Um, your voice is incredible. I’m sorry, but I have to say that you’re not qualified to be a solo artist yet,” said the man who was in front of Leeteuk.
“What’s the reason for not being qualified?” Leeteuk asked, sighing afterwards.
“You see… the music industry is pretty hard to get in, so I’ll just say this straightforward. You’re ugly.”
“Sir, I’m sure I can get a plastic surgery if you wanted to. I don’t have any objections of making my face prettier. Just let me be in your company, plea-“
“Plastic surgery is a no-no for us. We like natural people who have perfect body, pretty face and a lot of talent. I’m sorry, I’m sure you’ll find a company that accepts you just how you are. If you excuse me, I have a reunion to attend.” The man left the office right away, leaving Leeteuk without words.
So that’s how the music industry works; perfect body, pretty face, and a lot of talent? I’m sure there are few people that have all those 3 characteristics. Why are they against people who have talent, but have ugly faces? Leeteuk thought. Leeteuk left the office after making himself questions that can’t be answered. Another company that is not worthy at all…
Just as he was going to walk away from the company, he bumps with someone and falls on the floor. His butt hurt a lot since he fell hard on it, not to mention that this person pushed him too hard.
“I’m sorry! Are you okay?” the stranger asks as he lends a hand to Leeteuk to get up.
Leeteuk just takes the stranger’s hand and replies with a nod.
“Oh good, I’m really sorry! It’s just that I wasn’t looking when I started to run at a full speed. What should I do to pay for this incident? Oh and by the way, my name is Sungmin.”
“You don’t need to pay for this little incident, Sungmin. I’m fine.”
Sungmin makes an apologetic face, and starts to talk to himself about how dumb he was.
“Sungmin, really, I’m fine. See? I don’t have any scratches or bruises.” Leeteuk points to his arms and knees just to prove that he doesn’t have scratches at all. “So stop talking about how dumb you were.”
“Oh, thanks God…” Sungmin clasps his hands together and looks up, probably looking at the imaginary heaven. How weird can this guy be?
“May I ask you a question?” Sungmin asks interrupting my chain of thoughts at the moment. “Why are you sad?”
Leeteuk laughs at the sudden question. Sungmin was practically staring Leeteuk with a confused expression on his face.
“Do I look like I’m sad?” Leeteuk asks with a playful tone. “I’ve been smiling for the whole day.”
“Don’t lie, erm…”
“Leeteuk, my name is Leeteuk.”
“Yeah…. Don’t lie, Leeteuk-sshi. You can’t hide your sadness that well.”
“Oh well, I’ll just say the truth. I’m not qualified to be a solo artist.” Leeteuk says with a sigh.
“Why?” Sungmin asks as he takes Leeteuk inside the building and makes him sit on a chair.
“It’s just… they told me that I have a talent, but I’m too ugly to be in this company.” Leeteuk now changes his happy expression to a sad one.
“Oh… but you’re not ugly at all! You have a pretty face.”
“Apparently, this face,” Leeteuk points his face with his finger. “Is not pretty to them.”
“You know what? I’ll help you.”
Sungmin gives Leeteuk a business card with the words ‘KI MUSIC COMPANY’ printed on it. It had the address of the place it was situated, the phone number, but there was no name of the owner.
“That company is searching for people with talent; you should go check it out! I heard that Baek Ji Young, Rain, and other famous artists came from that company.”
“Wow, thanks a lot Sungmin!” Leeteuk hugs Sungmin and runs out of the building.
Leeteuk thought his problem of becoming a solo artist was now just simple thing to accomplish. He holds the business card in front of him all the time, thinking of his dream. The lights were focused on him, cameras everywhere, and people screaming his name, his songs playing around the city… that’s how he imagined his dream.

The next day, Leeteuk decided to pay a visit to “KI Music Company” building. It was pretty small compared to the other company he visited yesterday. Yet, if this company could bring out the best artists in South Korea, he would do anything to be in this company.
“Excuse me, I heard that this company wanted someone with talents… am I right?” Leeteuk asked to the lady in the receptionist.
“Oh yes, welcome to the KI Music Company. Let me take you to the office,” says the lady coming out of the reception, and leading Leeteuk towards the office.
Leeteuk stares at the walls of a hallway that leads to the office. There were photos of famous artists like Baek Ji Young, Rain, even Lee Jung Hyun. Every photo had their signatures, huge signatures of every artist. Leeteuk imagines himself signing his photo.
“We’re here, good luck sir.” The lady leaves Leeteuk by the door of the office.
It was now or never. Leeteuk entered the office quietly as he could. He didn’t want to bother the boss, just when he got his foot on the office’s floor.
“May I help you?” a man asked behind the huge chair. Leeteuk couldn’t see the man’s head because of the chair.
“Um… yes… I want to become a solo artist.” Leeteuk said with a nervous tone.
The man turned his chair to face Leeteuk, and when he saw Leeteuk, his eyes went wider than normal. Leeteuk stared at the man who was in front of him; he couldn’t believe his eyes at that moment. He just thought that the man who was in front of him was the most adorable person he has ever seen in his life. Maybe not adorable, but something else that made his heart beat faster. Both, the man and Leeteuk stared each other for 5 minutes until the man moved his head to look somewhere else. Later, he motioned Leeteuk to sit on the chair. As Leeteuk sat on the chair, he couldn’t help but stare at the man again.
“So, how can I help you?” the man asked.
“I want to become a solo artist.” Leeteuk said with a serious tone.
“What’s the reason behind that?”
“Well… since I was little kid, I liked to sing songs to everyone. Now that I just live with music as my inspiration for all, I want to show all the people my talent.”
“That’s a good reason to convince me. People tell me that they want to become solo artists because of money. I know that money can help them, but without any inspiration? They will somehow fail later on,” said the man.
By now, Leeteuk could feel that his heart would melt at any moment by those words. In his mind, those words were too deep, that he could totally understand the man’s words.
“Sorry for being rude, I haven’t introduced myself yet. I’m Kangin.”
Kangin, what an adorable name.
“Oh yes, my name is Leeteuk. By the way, I like how you think of people who want to become solo artists just to make money. I think they can’t make good music without inspiration.”
“Exactly, you read my thoughts. Even if I help them do songs, in my ears, those songs are horrible. Those songs have no inspiration at all.”
“I think we understand each other, Kangin-sshi,” says Leeteuk with a bright smile.
“I believe so…” Kangin says, returning his smile to Leeteuk.
Leeteuk blushes just by looking Kangin’s smile. Could it be love at first sight?
“So Leeteuk-sshi, I believe that you’re now in this company,” Kangin says extending a hand.
“Thank you so much,” Leeteuk says taking Kangin’s hand and shake gently.
“I hope we can work together, Leeteuk-sshi.”
That day, Leeteuk couldn’t wait to look forward to his new creations. Also, he couldn’t wait to be near Kangin. The only thing he wondered was that… did Kangin care about Leeteuk’s appearance?
