Summary: Donghae got a little problem with his wisdom tooth.
One fine morning, Donghae woke up feeling something in his mouth. He thought that maybe he didn’t wash his teeth well last night, leading him to wash his teeth longer this time. Still, he felt uncomfortable and put his finger inside his mouth to feel what he had. A wisdom tooth just coming out. At first he had told his whole family that a wisdom tooth was coming out, but all they said was: “Don’t worry, if it comes out straight, you don’t need it to be taken out.” At the end, he ignored that uncomfortable feeling and let the tooth come out.
“Hyuk! Guess what, I have a wisdom tooth coming out,” Donghae said as he hugged his best friend from behind.
“Are you serious? Does it hurt?” Eunhyuk asked as he turned around to face Donghae.
“No, it doesn’t hurt,” Donghae proved his point by punching his face lightly on the side where the wisdom tooth was coming out.
“Okay, but if it hurts, tell me okay?” Eunhyuk winked at Donghae, the later immediately blushed and nodded.
Ever since they were little kids, they were glued together. They went to the same school, same grade and section, same hospital, same soccer team, same dance group, etc. Nobody can’t separate them even for a split second; nobody knows too well as they do each other. Because of all those circumstances, Donghae has been falling for his best friend little by little every day. There were days when Eunhyuk would stay over Donghae’s, and the latter would always try to suppress his feelings, saying that that kind of “like” was just as friend or as brother. Yet, whenever Eunhyuk would do simple things like eat, laugh, talk or any other thing related to Eunhyuk, Donghae would find them absolutely cool and charming. After all those feelings, he declared himself that he indeed liked Eunhyuk a lot not just as friend, but as something else. After he realized that he liked the said guy, he felt self conscious of himself and his surrounding, especially with Eunhyuk’s actions. The way Eunhyuk used to talk and laugh were not the same now that Donghae liked very much that man. Whenever Eunhyuk would talk to him, Donghae would analyze every word he would say just to see if the former was interested in him. If he was, great, if not, waiting was the best option.
Throughout the whole day, Donghae received love letters from various girls (assuming that girls decorate love letters with cute drawings unless, there were guys who were really talented doing that kind of things). The first love letter contained around 100 I love you and around 50 you’re so handsome, and at the end, “can we meet behind the art building during recess?” At recess, he met the girl Yoona, and immediately, she declared her love for him.
“I’m sorry, I have someone else in my mind,” Donghae said, giving a sympathy look at Yoona, who was on the verge of crying. “There are other guys who are more than willing to love you.”
“But...” at that point, Yoona was crying, and the only thing Donghae could do was hug her and whisper “sorry” over and over again.
During Lunch, Tiffany appeared behind Donghae and covered his eyes with her hands. “guess who?”
“I don’t know… who are you?” Donghae asked, trying to remove Tiffany’s hands. Soon Tiffany removed her hands and Donghae immediately turned around to see Yoona’s friend Tiffany.
“Donghae, did you read my letter?” Tiffany asked, tugging the end of her blazer impatiently.
“Ah, the one that had fish drawings all over the letter? Yeah, why?” He didn’t want to deal with confessions anymore after he saw Yoona crying in front of him, and of course he had to comfort her during whole recess.
“So… is it a yes or no?” Donghae heard her say; he just stayed quiet. “I guess that’s a no…”
“I’m sorry, I have someone else in my mind,” Donghae said for the second time of the day. He was waiting for Tiffany to cry or do something, but surprisingly, she didn’t do anything at all but say “Don’t worry Donghae, I understand…” With that, Tiffany turned around and went straight to the bathroom. He didn’t want to know what would happen next to him for the last 2 hours of school.
During History class, Donghae tried to feel his wisdom tooth with his tongue, but obviously he couldn’t. The only thing he achieved was to make funny faces to Eunhyuk, who was seated next to him. Eunhyuk laughed silently, letting his best friend still go on with the faces.
“Donghae? is there something wrong?” asked Mr. Kim, chemistry teacher.
“Oh, no…. nothing,” Donghae responded and stopped trying to feel his wisdom tooth.
“What’s wrong, Hae?” Eunhyuk whispered, poking Donghae’s arm with his finger.
“Nothing, I was just trying to feel my wisdom tooth,” Donghae answered. “I can’t because either my tongue is small, or it’s just damn far away…”
Eunhyuk just laughed at silly comments Donghae did and continued to write down notes, giving a glance once in a while to Donghae, who was back to do silly faces but behind a book.
Eunhyuk never saw Donghae as more than best friends, but he accepted the idea that he was somehow attracted by him. The only thing that he didn’t like about his best friend being so damn handsome was that he would get confessions every day. He’s so jealous that those girls would take his precious time with his best friend. And no, he wasn’t jealous because of love; it was because after being sooo damn long together, that he never imagined that his best friend would “separate” himself from him. After seeing his best friend be with Yoona and Tiffany, he couldn’t do anything but clench his fist; he doesn’t know why.
After a week, Donghae went to Eunhyuk to complain about his pain inside his mouth.
“Eunhyuk, I can’t stand this anymore,” Donghae said, holding his best friend’s hands tightly. For a moment, Eunhyuk thought Donghae was going to confess. He would say yes…
“I’m in pain,” Donghae blurted, and stopped holding Eunhyuk’s hands to touch his own cheeks. That’s when Eunhyuk understood, the wisdom tooth.
“Since when did it start to hurt?” Eunhyuk asked as he got up from his seat and moved Donghae towards the nursery.
“Since Saturday.”
“Really? Why didn’t you call me?”
“I thought you were busy, so I didn’t call you…”
“Never mind that, I’m going to take you out of here,” Eunhyuk said, opening the door of the nursery and asking the nurse if there were any pills for pain. The nurse shook her head apologetically and immediately, Eunhyuk pulled Donghae to school gates.
Donghae had so many questions to ask like: can we get out of school without the director’s consent? How are we going to get near a dentist? Who’s going to pay?
“Donghae! Where are you going?” suddenly, Yuri shouted as she ran as fast as she could to catch up the 2 guys. “I need to talk to you!”
“Donghae…” Eunhyuk looked at the said man. “We must go to the dentist…”
“Yes… but she needs to talk to me,” Donghae looked back just to see Yuri just a few meters away, then turned to stare at Eunhyuk. “It might be something important.”
“Fine…”
Donghae turned to Yuri and smiled. Yuri immediately blushed and looked at the ground.
“Can I talk to you privately?” Yuri asked.
“I need to go to the dentist now, so…”
“Okay Donghae… I’ll go straight to the point… please be my boyfriend!”
There was a big silence until Donghae said: “I’m sorry, I have someone else in my mind.” Eunhyuk instantly felt hurt listening to those words come out of his best friend’s mouth. How come they are best friends and the latter didn’t even think of telling who that “someone” was to him?
Out of nowhere, a car pulled near the gates, and a man on a black suit got out of the car to open the back door of the car. Eunhyuk just pulled Donghae away from Yuri and proceeded.
“Thank you, Kangin,” Eunhyuk said as he pushed Donghae gently to get on the car.
Once Kangin got on the car, the driver drove as fast as possible. Meanwhile, Donghae was about to ask questions, but Eunhyuk quickly shushed him with his index finger on the latter’s lips. “I’ll answer them after, plus, don’t talk when you’re in pain…” Donghae just nodded while Eunhyuk just stared at the window, thinking of what Donghae had said exactly 5 minutes ago.
When they finally got to the nearest dentist, which was literally 10 big blocks away from school, Eunhyuk explained Donghae’s problem while the other was seated patiently on the leaning chair, clutching his cheeks. When the dentist understood the situation, he went immediately to check on Donghae’s tooth and take it out. After 15 minutes, a swollen Donghae came out of the room and tried to smile to his best friend. Eunhyuk smiled back, and turned to the receptionist to pay.
“It’s 7000 won,” the receptionist said. Donghae heard and stopped Eunhyuk from taking out his money.
“You can’t talk right now, so don’t bother complaining right now,” Eunhyuk smirked then paid.
When Eunhyuk and Donghae were in the car, Donghae took out his phone and typed “thank you,” then he grabbed his best friend’s hand and smiled awkwardly since he had the cotton inside his mouth. Eunhyuk blushed and turned to look somewhere else until he remembered the conversation Donghae had with Yuri.
“Can I ask you something?” Donghae nodded. “Who is that “someone” you mentioned to Yuri?”
After a long silence, Eunhyuk just surrendered and sighed. Donghae noticed that and poked Eunhyuk’s arm to pay attention to him and his cellphone.
I will tell you when I get to speak
Eunhyuk nodded and smiled.
But you have to answer all my questions
“Okay, ask me anything.”
Did you ask permission to leave school?
“No, I didn’t. Next question?”
Are you rich or something? Because I never knew you had bodyguards and a cool car…
“You see, you don’t know much about my father because whenever you were with me, he didn’t want to bother us.” Eunhyuk said, sitting closer to Donghae. “He’s the director of the school.”
Ok, that answers all my questions left…
Donghae felt relieved and at the time, disappointment. Relieved because at least, Eunhyuk is not part of any gang that ask for a cool car and bodyguards. Disappointment because after all this time, Eunhyuk never dared to talk about his father being the school’s director. The only thing he knew about his father was that he worked “hard” in somewhere Eunhyuk “didn’t know”.
“I didn’t want to tell you about my dad being the school’s director because you know… the typical teenage movies where the son of school’s director is hated for being the son…” Eunhyuk said as soon as he saw that Donghae didn’t react at all.
But I’m different…
“I’m sorry… Donghae.”
When Donghae saw his house, he turned and gave a confused look at Eunhyuk.
“I know you won’t feel anything because of the anesthesia, but after the effect is gone, it will hurt as hell… so I just decided to take you back home so you can rest. Don’t worry about your bag and homeworks; I’ll take care of them. You just rest.” Eunhyuk gave an assuring smile.
While Donghae went to his bedroom, Eunhyuk explained Donghae’s mother the situation. Of course, Donghae’s mom had sort of attachment with Eunhyuk, so she thanked him.
The next day, Donghae found Eunhyuk sleeping on his desk. He giggled then went to Eunhyuk just to poke him. Donghae smiled as the other woke up.
“Here is your bag and your free lunch for today. My mom did it for you; it’s soup,” Eunhyuk said as he handed the bags.
“Thank you. Hyuk, can you see me during recess?” Donghae asked, leaving all the bags on his desk.
“Sure, why not?”
During recess, Donghae took Eunhyuk behind the Science building, where he was sure nobody was there during recess.
“The reason why I asked you to see me was to tell you something…” Donghae started. “I don’t care if you hate me after this because even if you do, I will follow you and never give up my friendship with you.”
Eunhyuk just stared. Is Donghae…?
“That “someone” you asked me yesterday was… you.” Donghae blushed and looked at the floor to hide his face from Eunhyuk. “I liked you a long time ago...”
“Donghae…”
“I know I’m disgusting and all, but don’t push me away please…”
“Donghae, look at me.”
Donghae was hesitant at first, but after he did look at Eunhyuk straight to the eyes, he felt he went to heaven. Eunhyuk gave Donghae a peck on the lips.
“I like you too. Want to be mine forever?”
Donghae blushed again, and slowly nodded.
“Good because I wouldn’t let you be with someone else. Let’s go eat now, I didn’t eat this morning.”
Eunhyuk intertwined Donghae’s hand and lead the other to the cafeteria, not minding what others saw or thought. The only thing that was important to Eunhyuk was that Donghae liked him back.
After a week, Donghae and Eunhyuk were sitting next to each other under a tree. Suddenly, a leaf lands on Donghae’s hair, and Eunhyuk takes the leaf off and puts his arm around Donghae’s shoulder.
“You know…” Donghae said, staring at Eunhyuk. “Ever since I got my wisdom tooth out, I have been hopelessly falling in love with you every day.”
“Then I’m happy that wisdom tooth is no longer there.”
Eunhyuk closes their distance with a long kiss.
