on october 14, i had never felt so cool in my entire life.
i've been volunteering at this organization called the students sharing coalition. two weeks ago, i went to thurgood marshall middle school for a 'neighborhood cleanup day' with a few other employees. considering it's rated as THE worst middle school in baltimore city, i was a little hesitant about going. it turned out to be a hectic, but fun day. we stood in the cafeteria as loads of 7th graders flooded in, waiting to meet us all. after hearing that they were going to be paired up with an 'adult' from students sharing, the kids started eyeing us up. a table of girls began to stare at me.. and i mean stare. then they started pointing. and whispering to each other. then they all started declaring that they wanted me for their leader. "we want her." "what's her name? alison? we want alison!" repeatedly. i smiled at them, and then realized they were really serious. they weren't taking any shit from anyone. one of my co-workers came over to me and said, "i hope you feel really good about yourself right now. you're the cool one." i ended up not being paired up with that group, but for the remainder of the day they were my favorites. so damn cute! i had some hardasses in my group (and i remind you that they were only 12/13 years old). this one tough looking kid started talking about 'scary movie' so i recited some lines to him. i think that won him over. [melanie, i even used your headline]. a group of girls complimented me on my hair, and then asked if it was real. i told them it wasn't a weave and let them touch it. ha. the kids had kfc for lunch. isn't that some shit? i thought that was funny. after the day was over, we all decided that we needed to go to happy hour.
i went out with sarah and amanda last weekend. "girls night out" if you will. we met up with lindsay kowalchek at her bar, the blue sea grill. free drinks were a go. then we headed to rams head live. and then to a greek bar which had a chalkboard in its bathroom. i realized after looking at pictures from that night that i had written on the actual wall.. instead of the chalkboard. whatever. it was nice to hang out with JUST amanda and sarah. my boytoy was our taxi service for the night, and for that i will be forever grateful! after seeing lindsay's apartment in mt. vernon, it just sealed the deal that i am going to live in the city one of these days.
amanda with chalk in hand.. and notice my masterpiece on the wall.
sarah's funny.
this is not.
school has been going alright. i've been bombarded with projects and exams lately, though. i finally finished the scholarship essay for my study abroad trip. after all the effort i put into that shit, if i don't get any money from towson i may have to shoot someone. work is lame and i need a second job. or just one good-paying job. green giant corn with buttersauce is fabulous, by the way.
