36th Entry: Musings.

So, from the way things look, I will have to don a red ribbon four days from now. Time is running out.

... of course, this does not sit well with me. The thought of giving in to these cowardly so-called "deities" revolts me, since, apparently, they are making us pay their "due". Also, no one can know how much truth lies within their words. After all, if we are to believe the visitors from certain people's worlds who appeared recently, our homeplaces have already vanished.

So far, so good. I am not yet giving in.

I'm sure some of you have considered making an attempt to kill these deities. Are there any exact plans? I'm not sure if it would be a wise idea, but I am inclined to get rid of people who try to dictate everyone else's lives.

Also, has anyone been able to make investigations, particularly involving the carousel?

Okay, to reflect: dues are paid in blood or valuable items. They are supposed to be a substitute for our worlds being destroyed. What is one soul or one item compared to a whole world? This leads me to believe that this is not the last thing we will have to pay - if the threat is true. They might be bluffing. For that, they only have to believe in our fear.
But, assuming it is true, then our worlds must obviously have value for them. Or for whoever is sending these animals, as they are obviously superior to the "deities". ... wolds have a lot of people, thus a lot of blood - of life's essence? Is that it, I wonder? And if one day, all the worlds have ended and this superior entity or entities have absorbed all their lifeblood, there will be a state of cruel perfection. ... that is the very antithesis of life. And some can't bear life because living is imperfection is pain.
That, of course, still brings no solution.

Let's look at the last message they sent:

"Rat at lunch,
Worlds end in a bunch
City falls, my hunch..."

... the end of the worlds will also mean that of the City? That may be a reason for the deities to be desperate.

Oh, must we all pay for living?

If I die, I will have to stay here forever. I will never see my home again. Which is very obviously the considerably smaller sacrifice compared to all of it vanishing. ... at the moment, it does look as if in four days' time, I will be dead.

... Teto? You'll miss me? Somehow, that thought is reassuring...

But, I wonder... surely there are worlds of which no inhabitant has been to the City yet. Whatever will happen to those? Will they be destroyed without a choice?

Also, fire and ice. Even the plants are upset, not to mention Teto.

(OOC: Aaand, late post because, uh, I suck? First strikeout barely, second completely hackable.)
