Ohno and Nino paid a short visit to the bookstore and Ohno apologized on Nino’s behalf. To his surprise, the owner didn’t seem angry at all and was more worried about Nino than his book getting stolen in the middle of the day. Ohno was glad that the old man was forgiving, or else he would be embarrassing himself in front of other people. However, during their short visit, the old man told them something interesting: the author of the picture book Nino was into lived near, and was a woman. Unfortunately, the author didn’t know who it was, and Ohno was pretty much bummed out about it. Well, at least they were given a tiny bit of information.

Since Ohno was free at the moment, he decided to visit Jun at the bakery to let him know Nino was okay. However, on their way to the bakery, Nino stopped him halfway.

Nino pointed at a couple holding hands. “Why are they squeezing each other’s hands?”

Oh, that’s right. Ohno hadn’t taught him about those things yet. “They’re not squeezing hands. They’re holding hands.” Ohno was a bit shameful that he had to explain this to Nino, though, because he’s never held anyone’s hands but his mother’s and fathers when he was a little kid.

“Why are they holding hands?”

“They’re doing it because it makes them happy… I think.”

“Happy… Are people happy when they hold hands with anybody?”

“Not with anybody,” Ohno chuckled lightly. “Just with someone they like.”

“Happy… holding hands…” Nino mumbled as he stared at Satoshi’s hands, which were currently stuffed in his jacket pockets. As Satoshi walked on, Nino followed closely behind and had the urge to reach out for Satoshi’s hand. But as he got closer and closer, Satoshi quickly turned around with a grin on his face; Nino pulled his own hand away and clutched the sides of the book they had just bought close to his chest.

“Here we are, Nino,” Satoshi told him as they came to a stop in front of Chiroru. Once Satoshi was inside, Nino held out his hand and stared at it.

“Happy… to hold hands…”

“Hey, Jun!” Ohno greeted the owner as he walked in, with Nino following behind.

“Hello, Satoshi… Nino!” Jun exclaimed when he saw the persocom moved aside from Ohno’s back and walked towards Jun. “I’m so glad you’re okay!”

Nino bowed respectfully towards Jun. “I am sorry to have made you worry.”

“Not at all,” Jun smiled. “I’m just happy that you’re safe.”

“Excuse me, I’d like to purchase a cake,” a customer requested at the front.

“Nino wants to do it,” Nino told Jun.

“Are you sure? You’re not scheduled to work today.”

“Nino missed work. So Nino helps now,” he said before dashing behind the counter to help the customer.

As they watched Nino enthusiastically help the customer out, Jun sighed in relief. “It’s such a relief to know that she wasn’t tampered with.”

“You’re telling me. I couldn’t sleep after Sho mentioned that someone might have hit his “on” switch and reset his memory.” Ohno blushed, recalling the conversation he had with Sho about Nino’s “on” switch. Every time he remembered the day he turned Nino on, he blushed. Like right now, Ohno could feel his cheeks burning hot. “Heh, heh. Putting an “on” switch in a place like that… who’d have guessed?”

Jun cocked his head to the side. “A place like that? I don’t get it.”

“Uh… It’s…” Ohno leaned in close to Jun’s ear and whispered. He told him where Nino’s “on” switch was before Jun pulled away away with a blush identical to Ohno’s face.

“No! Not there! Usually, it’s inside the ear, where the connections are!!”

“What?!” Ohno gasped at the information he was given and he couldn’t believe it. “Really?! B-but Nino’s--” Ohno leaned in to whisper more about how he thought that every persocom had their “on” switch in the same location as Nino’s, but Jun pulled away with a deep red blush on his face.

“N-No! They’re not! I’m not an expert on persocoms, but I’ve never heard of a persocom with a switch down...down...down there!”

“O-Oh, you don’t say…”

“But if the switch was there, then…”

“Then what?”

Jun moved closer so he could whisper into Ohno’s ear. “Nino might be one of those pleasure persocoms.”

“No!” Ohno exclaimed when he pulled away. How can Nino’s purpose be like that?! Well, he couldn’t deny that Nino was very cute and the fact that his “on” switch was there… it might just be a possibility. Is that the reason why Nino was thrown away? That Nino wasn’t useful anymore?

“There are people who… you know… want to do the deed with their persocoms.”

“Y-yeah, but it’s… different.”

“Thank you very much,” they heard Nino saying as the customer walked out of the store with a satisfied smile on her face. Once the doors were closed, Nino approached them both. “Satoshi and Manager are turning red.”

“It’s nothing!” Ohno shook his head and glanced at Jun to Nino back and forth. “Right, Jun?”

“Y-yeah, nothing. And Nino, thank you for helping out.”

“Nino wants to work here again,” Nino told Jun.

“Are you sure? You aren’t worried after what happened? It might be dangerous for you to walk home alone.”

“Nino wants to work,” he insisted. “Nino wants to give Satoshi money. Nino wants to see Satoshi smile.”

“Nino…” As he stared at the determined smile on Nino’s face, Ohno felt his heart skip a beat. It wasn’t a bad feeling, but it felt good somehow and seeing Nino’s face only caused his heart to quicken in pace. “If it’s alright with you, Jun, I think it’d be good for him. I’ll walk with him to and from work as much as I can.”

“Well, it really is helpful to have him around. How could I say no?”

Nino beamed at Jun’s response in bowed in respect. “Thank you very much!”

Jun bowed back. “Thank you very much.”

“Nino want’s to start working today!” He walked enthusiastically towards the staff door, but stopped when Ohno called for him.

“No, Nino! You have to ask the manager!”

“Please?” Nino asked Jun with huge puppy eyes. Satoshi remembered seeing Nino do that before, and guessed that he must have taken it from some anime he watched on TV.

Jun laughed and ruffled Nino’s hair. “If Satoshi says it’s all right, then by all means. Don’t just stand there, then. Go change into your uniform.”

“Nino is going to change!”

Once Nino disappeared behind the staff door, Ohno couldn’t help but worry. He began to recall the incident at live peep, what happened yesterday at DRAGONFLY’s, how Nino was completely different, and after Jun had told him that persocoms normally have their “on” switch in their ear, something was definitely off and strange. He couldn’t put his mind into it to explain what it meant, other than the fact that he still have little knowledge about persocoms. But there was something else bothering him as well: the word “Chobit.” What exactly was it and how is he ever going to tell Nino that he’s a chobit if no one will tell him what they really are, if he really is a chobit, that is?

Ohno sighed. Thinking about all of this was making his head hurt. But he was certain about two things: when Nino disappeared, he was worried to death and it pained him whenever he thought about Nino being alone, it pained him. There was this time where Nino was pained when he talked about his former owner…

“Is this okay, Manager?”

Ohno snapped out of his thoughts when he saw Nino walk from the staff room, dressed in a different uniform. It looked more girly on Nino, but somehow it fit him and his image.

“It’s not okay!” Jun exclaimed.

“Not okay?”

“That outfit is for somebody else.”

“Nino made a mistake?”

Jun shook his head and smiled slightly. “It’s my fault for leaving it out. I just couldn’t bring myself to put it away.”

Ohno noticed the pained and distant look on Jun’s face. It was the same face he made when he talked about his former wife.

“Your uniform is over there,” Jun told him and pointed out Nino’s uniform hung on the wall in the staffroom.

Meanwhile, Inoue saw the uniform the persocom was wearing. The moment she laid her eyes on the familiar uniform, tears started falling out and she couldn’t stop them no matter what. Seeing someone else wear it, and a persocom at that… it hurt badly that Inoue’s heart tightened painfully in her chest.

As Jun was escorting Nino back to the staff room, however, Ohno noticed something in the corner of his eyes. When he turned to look through the door, he saw Inoue standing behind a lamp post, her cheeks stained with tears.

“Mao!”

Inoue didn’t stay long, however, and ran as soon as Ohno and Jun, who heard her name, noticed her.

“I’m sorry! Please look after Nino!” Ohno told Jun before running off to catch up with Inoue.

As Jun watched Ohno chase after Inoue, he reached out a hand. He wished that it was him instead, but he knew he was too much of a coward to go. Instead, he stuck with Nino as Ohno had asked him and turned from the door with a bitter smile. He let out a shaky breath as he reached for his heart instead, and clutched it as he felt the pain begin.

Nino watched Jun’s face change from worry to a painful expression. When he saw that Jun was clutching onto his shirt, right where the heart was.

“Is Manager hurt?” Nino asked.

“...What?”

“Does it hurt right here?” He placed his fingertips on Jun’s arm. “Are you in pain?”

Jun was taken back at Nino’s display of actions, but it’s not like he’s done something like this before. It’s just that it was different seeing a persocom care and worry. “No, I’m not hurt.”

“Manager looked like he was in pain when he saw Nino,” Nino pointed out. “Even now.”

Jun sighed. “I guess I’m no good at hiding my feelings. I can’t let it go, no matter how long it’s been… She said “goodbye.” Her final words are still etched in my memory.”

Upon hearing the word “goodbye,” Nino placed his hand over his chest. He felt his heart hurt even when he said the word, and it hurt even more when he thought about Satoshi...

Ohno finally caught up with Inoue and as soon as he was right behind her, he placed his hand on Inoue’s shoulder. “I may not be good at anything else, but I can still run fast.”

For a while, Inoue stood without saying anything until she turned around and tears were still coming out of her eyes. She sobbed loudly as she stared at Ohno’s face before throwing herself onto his chest.

“Mao?...”

“So, are persocoms really better?!” Inoue exclaimed as she shook Ohno back and forth. “Do you prefer persocoms to human girls?!”

“Matsumoto-san… that outfit…” Inoue hiccuped. “He said he made it for me! That’s what he said! And then that persocom…”

“What?!” Ohno gasped. “Then… that outfit was yours? So then does that mean… that the person who used to work at Chiroru… is you?”
