Matsuoka is unexpectedly cute. Everyone always assumes Taichi is the cute one of the group, small and energetic, always intent on pulling silly faces and being an all round adorable guy. But four fifths of TOKIO would easily answer Mabo if asked. All with ridiculously sappy expressions on their faces as they say so too.
They may not admit why they do it, but each member loves making Mabo laugh. Enough to make him smack his head on the wall behind him. It gives them all a fluttering feeling in the pit of their stomachs to see his head thrown back with such undisguised glee on his face. Especially when he doesn't have any sunglasses on, so they can see his eyes screw up, and it's within the privacy of just the five of them. No one else, just for them. It makes Joshima feel warm and at complete ease, being able to hear and see that Mabo is so happy. If Matsuoka can still laugh, everything else doesn't matter.
They all love Mabo because he notices them all. He makes sure to take everyones opinion into consideration, even the baby of the group, Nagase. Which always makes the lead singer so completely in awe of him, even after all these years. He can't help but think he'd crumble just a little bit without Mabo still making that little bit of effort. Unintentionally reminding him he's still special, still their baby but still just as important. He loves that. Even though he's now hit 30.
Mabo is the one that can get everyone to agree. After all, there's nothing better than seeing a happy Mabo once everyone stops disagreeing and finally decides on something. And that's one thing that they can all easily agree on. Not that they'd tell him that. Yamaguchi thinks it's amazing. He's truly a force. Keeping them all together and on the right track. A force that just keeps dragging him closer and closer. But Yamaguchi really doesn't mind being swallowed up by it.
Somehow, Mabo has created an image for himself where he comes across as a bit of a bad boy. It seems to fit as an on screen personality and doesn't hinder him, infact it gets him some great drama roles, so he's happy to go along with it on camera. That's fine, think the members of TOKIO. Because at least they're the only ones who get to see the Mabo that gets flustered and embarrassed so easily. Taichi likes to make him like that as much as he can. Not out of any sort of spite or malice, but because it's so right to see him like that. So raw and pure. It sometimes renders him a bit breathless, but leaves him grinning the whole entire day.
Innocently adorable, is how they'd describe it. Which really is so utterly charming. It especially charmed the pants off Joshima and Yamaguchi, finding such a trait in the man so completely endearing. It makes Taichi and Nagase feel like they're back at school, seeing Mabo fist his hair and duck his head in embarrassment. Which in turn makes them both feel like they're burning up with a fever. It's both liberating and confusing. Well, it was for the first few years.
Everytime Mabo is just Mabo, he makes his bandmates fall completely in love with him all over again.
